Electra X starter
Went out tonight. Stopped. Started bike on starter and it kept on running! Kill switch no effect. Switched off and removed key- no effect. Pulled off plug cap. Starter still spinning. Removed battery cover to disconnect the battery and the starter stopped. The relay had shorted to earth, I reckon, through the cover. Repositioned the relay and covered with a bit of plastic bag to insulate the relay and got home OK just now. Concerning at the time. Any one else had similar problems? Have heard of it before on jap bikes. Usually faulty starter solenoid. it gets stuck on the on position because ,due to heavy current draw it can cause the terminals inside to burn and this can lead them in some circumstances ,to either not make the circuit and just click or the starter to stay engaged. i have seen wiring shorts as well but not as often as faulty solenoids.
