Hi all. Can I ask a really big question, after 40+ years of riding covering everything, sports bikes, big tourers etc I then moved on to a hinckley Bonneville which I really enjoyed then to a Harley which I hated. I was going to buy another Bonneville but the Electra caught my eye. My use of a bike now is decent distances on back roads and I see motorways and dual carridgeways as the devils own creation, unfortunatley my memories of Enfields from " when I was a lad" are of very unreliable oil spewing devices. Any comments on the new Electra would be appreciated. Regards. Geoff.

Geoff's 'Electra request'
Hi, Geoff, I'm amazed that 21 people have viewed your request for 'Electra' information and nobody has replied to you. Unfortunately I have a 5 year old 500 'Classic' and for what it's worth doesn't leak a drop of oil anywhere and I shall never part with it. If you want some worthwhile opinions have a look at 'Real Classic' magazine on the web. There are some articles about the 'Electra' and the magazine owner (FrankWestworth) has just fallen in love with the 'Electra' and uses one constantly. Franks better half Rowena is a fan .Regards Derek.

Electra X comments
I got an Electra X as my retirement pressie some 18 months ago. I hadn't been on bikes for over 25 years because of the kids, etc.. I didn't want a speed machine but I did want a bit of nostalgia with a few mod cons.. I have electronic ignition, electric start, disc brake, indicators, etc., but I don't leave oil puddles when I park up. There have been lots of discussions about the merits of the original classic iron barreled machines compared with the lean burn Electra, though these have been tempered by the new unit construction RE due out which will do 100mph. There are lots of discussion sites including this forum which you can search on to get opinions, macam. I quite cheerfully enjoy making an old fashioned noise at about 60mph on ordinary roads. Though I have been a bit faster, I'm not really concerned about outright speed and performance and I avoid motorways and long dual carriageways. There are lots of modifications you could do, should you want, and a couple that you ought to do even if you don't want, but, if you like 'playing' with your machine, then an RE is one to consider. I'm glad I got mine, but, with a good premium bond win, I could be persuaded to get a bright red 1960s Continental GT lookalike with the new unit construction engine. Just my wish. 73 de dave G7NCB with Mac Pro and 05 Electra X from the Isle of Axholme

Sorry for being such a long time getting back onto the forum, work has been very busy and i seem to be falling asleep at night a bit too early. The Electra is a perfectly good bike for gentle back road touring. It is economical and relativly light to handle. insurance can be cheap and maintenance is very easy although it does have to be done, if you dont, some bikes are known to sulk through lack of attention. If you fancy a -*test*-('") ride on one i have a demo bike. Just give me a call and arrange a go. I just ned your licence. Jim Allen
