This year was the most arduos year to date. A lot of the old timers and marshalls who had been doing it for years remarked on how bad the weather was. Gusting wind up to 40mph and Heavy horizontal rain and a route which ran into wind. We could of not got any wetter if we had swam the Thames in the car along the bottom.
It all started off ok but by the time we got to Croyden the heavens had opened up big time. With a car cruising at 20mph in top gear and then hitting a wall of wind blowing against you, the car struggled to pull in first gear. We managed it in the end but lost neutral in the gearbox after Crawley, which made stopping the car very interesting and re starting as it starts with a starting handle. We arrived at a miserable Brighton at 2.15pm which included an hours drying out time at Crawley.
6.5 hours total. 60 mile journey.1 hour stoppage and 1.5 gallons of fuel.
Can anyone work out the average speed and fuel consumption?
I dont know how many failed this year but the RAC man said they had a lot of gearbox failures due to water dragging on the wheels when going through puddles and problems with water ingress. We passed a lot of cars which has failed, many more than normal and a lot of them not the cars you would expect.
